Panic Atacks

Panic Atacks are a big problem for many people because they descend on you all of a sudden without warning, and are extremely debilitating. This is a little like major depression in that it totally stops you in your tracks from doing anything even remotely useful, but differs in that the cause is not a general malaise, apathy or wondering “what the point of it all” is. But rather a far more sinister feeling of intense, heart pumping fear that suddenly comes upon you for no apparent reason. A panic atack is hence not something to be taken lightly. It is something that needs to be tackled head on, and not swept under the carpet.

In fact, this is one big problem with many panic attack sufferers, namely that one of the big causes of panic atacks is avoidance behaviour, where an individual is actively trying to avoid conflict. This sounds like it would be recipe for an easy life, but in reality it simply leads to an enormous build up of tension both in the real world, and in the psychological makeup of the individual. They start second guessing themselves, and put themselves into a state of learned helplessness, which is an extremely unproductive place to be in. And when it reaches a certain point then often times a panic attack can suddenly hit, and the individual feels powerless to do anything about it.

Causes of Panic Atacks

Another very common cause of panic atacks are phobias that people have to certain places, things or actions. For example, say that someone was scared of heights, but you decided you decided to bundle them up anyway and take them on a helicopter ride. Apart from being an incredibly stupid and insensitive thing to do, there is also an extremely high likelihood that if that individual had a genuine phobia and fear of heights, that you could easily trigger a panic attack in them.  If you have ever visited a parachute aerodrome then you can actually see this effect quite commonly. People, who never thought they had any problem with heights, and so decided to do a sponsored parachute jump to aid some charity or other, will suddenly get a panic atack when the time comes for them to jump out of the plane. And even though they have done all the training and they know that the statistics indicate how safe parachuting really is (very safe in case you are wondering), they are all of a sudden flooded with fear in true panic attack fashion.

Other causes that can trigger a panic attack can be physically located in nature, such as returning to a building where you fell over and broke your leg, or the intersection where your mother was run over, or any other manner of traumatic events that happened in certain places. This can even be as simple as returning to an old workplace that held unhappy memories.

In any case, if you do suffer from panic atacks then it is a situation that you need to look into and correct. There are many ways to overcome the condition. You simply need to check them out.
